Air France Hand Luggage

Air France AirlinerMore and more travelers want to travel as light as possible. Whether you’re crossing the continent with Air France or backpacking through Asia it seems that many people are taking on the challenge of traveling with carry on luggage only. When traveling with only hand luggage, packing efficiently and being aware of the Air France carry on rules is essential. This article will guide you through the rules and regulations of Air France hand luggage with regard to size, weight and dimensions.

Size and Weight Limits Hand Baggage Air France

If your hand luggage is overweight or exceeds the maximum allowed size, you may be faced with the decision to leave something behind or to pay an excess baggage fee. Not a decision anyone really wants to be faced with when arriving at the airport. To avoid unpleasant surprises, we’ve summarized the standard information for Air France carry on baggage allowance.

The dimensions of your bag can be up to 55cm x 35cm x 25cm or 27.1in x 13.8 in x 9.9inches. As for the weight, Air France cabin baggage rules are more than generous and make traveling with carry on luggage alone all the easier. The airline’s hand luggage policy states that your hand baggage item and accessory (e.g small handbag) must not exceed 12kg. This offers you an additional 5kg of carry on allowance compared to other major airlines.

  • Jackets and coats;
  • Suits in a fold away protector case;
  • Umbrellas

As for the latter, umbrellas are permitted in the cabin but must be stowed in the overhead bin.

Hand Baggage Allowance Baby

For children, you are allowed to bring on a collapsible stroller, a diaper/changing bag, and a car seat. Air France encourages its passengers to be as ready as possible to pack these items away as neatly as you can before boarding. The stroller needs to be handed in at the boarding gate since you can’t take it with you in the cabin. When you reach your destination, the stroller can be collected from the baggage carousel.

Liquids In Air France Hand Luggage

This is the part of your journey that causes the biggest amount of headaches, both for you as a traveler and for airport security personnel. To make sure you get through airport security as quickly and efficiently as possible, ensure you comply with the guidelines below.

  • You can only carry liquids in a clear plastic bag that is 20cm x 20cm in dimensions. Each bottle or container can only contain up to 100ml of liquid and the total volume of all the bottles in your clear plastic bag should not be more than 1 liter (this means you can bring up to ten 100ml bottles or containers).
  • If you have prescription medicine that you must bring in to the cabin with you, this can exceed 100ml. However, you’ll need to accompany it with the prescription note from your General Practitioner or consulting doctor.

When you get through to the tax-free shopping lounge you can purchase as much as you like. However ,you should take note of the amount of alcohol you are allowed to bring into your destination country, this is usually 1l per person. As for perfumes, makeup and other beauty products you can purchase as much as you like but remember to pack it into your check-in bag on your return if these bottles or containers exceed 100ml.

Hand Baggage In the Cabin

Unlike many airlines Air France allows you to bring up to two pieces of carry on luggage, depending on the size of the cabin in the aircraft you are traveling on. Whether you can carry one or two pieces of hand luggage will depend on your destination. Make sure to check the hand baggage allowance for your destination before you take off to the airport.

overhead bin

No one wants to keep their hand luggage on their lap for the entirety of their journey. It is not comfortable nor safe to keep you bag or suitcase on your lap. During take-off you must put all luggage items in the overhead cabin or under your seat.

If you are seated in an emergency exit row you cannot place any luggage under the seat before you. If there’s no space in the overhead cabin above your seat, you can ask the flight attendant to put your hand baggage somewhere else and retrieve it upon arrival.

Hand Luggage Allowance For Connecting Flights

If you have a connecting flight with a different airline, make sure to check their baggage policy with regard to hand luggage. This is especially the case if you’re flying with a different type of carrier with less space in the overhead bin. There are very few thing that are as annoying as baggage difficulties at the boarding gate. Avoid excess baggage charges and check the baggage policy of your connecting flight (assuming it’s not Air France) in advance. If you’re not sure which baggage allowance applies, take the lowest allowance as a rule.

Types of Hand Baggage

Travel bag companies have cottoned on to the fact that travelers want to get on the plane with only a carry on bag. With air travel becoming cheaper and more accessible for many people, bags that are suitable as carry on are getting more important.

When traveling with carry-on only you have a lot of bags and suitcases to choose from. Suitcases with wheels, bags with or without wheels, backpacks, padded bags to protect your luggage and more or less pouches. Whatever type of traveler you consider yourself, there’s a bag or suitcase that suits your needs. Just make sure that whatever you decide to bring as carry on luggage complies with the Air France hand baggage policy.

Earning Miles, Points or Awards on Your Flight

Most of the airlines are member of a group of airlines offering special services and benefits to their customers. The most well known, including the major international airlines, are Skyteam and Star Alliance. As a member of the Skyteam Air France offers its passengers to earn award miles on their flights which they can spend on flights, hotel rooms, renting a car and many more options. If you’re flying regularly with the Skyteam partners, your accumulated award miles can add up quickly. Other Skyteam members include Delta Airlines, Alitalia, KLM and China Southern.
